beauty surrounds us- rumi

photos captured this week <3

Every time I return home from a trip, be it a weekend getaway or a six month adventure abroad, I am overcome with gratitude for the beauty of our mountains, our landscape, the flora and fauna of home. It just takes a few days of being away to come home with a “new” set of eyes. Sometimes I take for granted the incredible 10 minute commute to work along the Pacific ocean, passing through downtown Santa Barbara and into Summerland, and I don’t always look around and open my eyes, my heart to the beauty that’s right in front of me. This week I have been housesitting in the hills of Carpinteria and am saturated in the beauty of home. The beauty is alive, it is felt —in the soaring, circling vultures, in the fruit orchards and vegetable gardens, in the vibrant colors found in flowers—colors that could only be from the Creator’s paintbrush.

We are given the opportunity, the gift to see and even moreso to feel the beauty around us each and every day. Even through hardships, and in difficult times and places, allow your heart to open and be saturated with beauty, not only surrounding you, but radiating from within. You are true beauty embodied, you are a wonderful and magical being that could only be made from the same paintbrush as the vibrant and alive flowers, the wise mountains, and the deep deep sea. Let your beauty shine, and let the beauty of others shine around you even brighter.

Beauty surrounds us,
but usually we need to be walking in a garden to know it.

The body itself is a screen to shield and partially reveal
the light that’s blazing inside your presence.

Water, stories, the body,
all the things we do, are mediums
that hide and show what’s hidden.

Study them,
and enjoy this being washed
with a secret we sometimes know,
and then not.
