This morning I went on a sunrise hike up Saddlerock trail. It was my favorite type of morning where the clouds hug the mountains and all you can see is an endless sea of white fluff. From below it appears to be a dreary foggy Santa Barbara summer morning, but from up top it is absolute bliss. The sun peaked over the mountain right as I reached the top, the fog continued to roll in below, and the sun beams energized my soul, my body for the day ahead. On the horizon were the Islands—a crystal clear view of each crevice, each ridge. In just 10 days I’ll be on those Islands, a retreat from life’s going and going and an opportunity to completely get off the grid for a few days. Disconnect. Connect.
Each time I do a sunrise hike I am reminded that there is no better way to start the day.
On a side note, I discovered ginger chews by the Ginger People at Trader Joes the other day and they are perfection—just the right amount of bite. It also turns out that they have a ginger skin care line which I’m excited to try out. Last month while hiking the John Muir Trail Reed’s ginger chews served as my unexpected pick-me-up along the trail. I definitely recommend that everyone has their own pick-me-up while backpacking—something that provides a little kick, and also makes the heart smile. I am so happy to know that I can pick up a bag of these chews at TJ’s for my upcoming backpacking trip on the Islands. If you’re a ginger fan you must pick them up on your next TJ run!
